This is 18" x 24" in charcoal. It's part of the Pretty series. Lots of other images to come. I'm so happy to have a studio and a show deadline. It makes me work a lot harder.
Hey I won an honourable mention award from the Square Foot Show 2008. My first award ever. Thank you AWOL and also to everyone who voted! (And even better, is that I won it alongside my favourite woodshop teacher Stan.)
Just a quick update... I have new studio!!! (no pictures yet, because my computer is out of commission.) And... I've been commissioned to paint Cooper, a puppy. It's a christmas present. :-) And...... we'll be holding an open studio show on January 24th!!
I did some work on this painting that I've been working on forever (literally years). The girl looks really paranoid. They say that you can see the artist in every piece they do. :-p Can you tell that it was a monochromatic acrylic painting (12 in. x 12 in.), and I just added the colour digitally? Even though the background is black and white, I think it still works. I've had 2 offers for this painting, but each time, I couldn't let it go... I can't stand the thought of someone buying it, then changing their mind about it, and giving it to Value Village or something. It's my first painted portrait - basically, like the first baby picture of my artistic childhood.
This will be my first year submitting to Lonsdale Gallery's Love Show. I'm really excited. It's for a good cause (60% of the money sold from the pieces will be going to Nomads, who will help raise awareness about organizations that help street youths.) This is charcoal on paper (I'm still in a dry medium groove), stretched on a canvas. It's 8"x8". I had to stuff it through the mailbox of the gallery in order to get it in on time... I really really hope it survived that. I'm pretty happy with the final result... in the last few weeks, I've been trying hard to listen to my instincts and trust myself to know what to do while I'm creating... to stop 'thinking', if that makes any sense. I decided to call the piece "Love Me".
The Show will actually be held at Gallery 1313 in Parkdale (1313 Queen St. West) from Thurs. October 30th - Sun. November 9th. Hope to see you there!
I've sold one of my watercolours (themed around cake) that I had done in June. It's nice to know it will have a new loving home. I used a gold coloured frame to bring out the warm colours in the cake. Looking at it makes me want to paint more of them.
